Learning the skills to undertake harder scrambles (grade 2 and 3) will develop your mountaineering skills. Whether you have specific scrambles in mind, want to prepare for a trip to the Alps, or to be able to safeguard yourself and your climbing partner when approaching and descending off mountain crags. Scrambling allows us to move quicker and more efficiently in complex terrain, meaning big mountain days linking iconic scrambles in Snowdonia, for example, become possible

WHO'S IT FOR?

This advanced scrambling course in Snowdonia or the Lake District is perfect for those who want to step up their scrambling from grade 1, learn how to use a rope to tackle harder, more serious scrambles, or prep for a trip to the Alps! Scrambling in the mountains takes you into more complex and steep terrain, meaning a good head for heights and a new set of mountaineering skills is required. Ideally, you will have experience scrambling at grade 1 in the mountains with basic navigation skills and good fitness.

This is a 2 day course. They will be big days in the mountains, looking at the skills below. If you would prefer a 1 day course, please feel free to get in touch!

  • Fitting harness and helmet

  • Tying into the rope

  • How to choose a scramble

  • Route finding

  • Using climbing gear and building belays

  • Rope skills to safeguard yourself and your partner

  • Movement over rock

  • Abseil and retreat off scrambles
