GRADE 1 SCRAMBLES
Stepping up your adventures in the mountains takes another level of confidence and commitment. And what better way to enjoy these classic scrambles than with a qualified mountaineering instructor, to help build your confidence and enjoy a full on mountain day!
This course is run in Snowdonia, home to some of THE best scrambles in the UK. For guided scrambles in other areas of the UK, get in touch to book a bespoke option.
WHO'S IT FOR?
This guided scramble is aimed at those summer hill and mountain walkers who are keen to develop their mountain walking and progress to scrambling, but want the reassurance of having a mountaineering instructor to help them achieve their scrambling goals, aspirations and to keep them safe. You may not yet have the skills and experience to safely navigate the complex terrain found on Grade 1 scrambles, and not yet skilled and experienced enough to ensure your own safety and the safety of your group in ascent and descent.
COURSE CONTENT:
As this is a guided scramble, we will spend a majority of our time actually scrambling to get the most of the day and to complete our scramble. However, if you went away from this guided scramble having learnt nothing, I'd be disappointed in myself! You can expect to cover the following:
-
Choosing a route and route finding
-
Movement and footwork on rock
-
Safeguarding others in your group in ascent and descent
-
Fauna, flora and mountain geology
-
Basic emergency procedures
-
Decision making
WHAT SCRAMBLES WILL WE BE DOING?
The choice is yours (if booking bespoke!), but you can expect to be on one of the scrambles below. This isn't a complete list of Grade 1 scrambles, but these are some of the classic scrambles in Snowdonia:
-
Crib Goch and the Snowdon Horseshoe

Tryfan North Ridge (Tryfan)

There really isn't a much better way to escape the crowds than to head into terrain reserved for climbers! However, stepping away from grade 1 scrambles requires a whole new toolbox of skills and equipment.
